This is the toughest last post I have had to write. I was definitely nervous going into this game. To be completely honest I wanted to see a close game and not a blowout. All the pressure was on Germany to win this game since they would have hated to have the Dutch (their biggest rival) in the final. Until the end of first half I was happy to see us still tied which meant it was a close game. Higuain really upset me with that missed shot. You have to.. have to... have to... finish that! He had enough time to place it rather than to go for a power shot. The goal that went for Argentina that was called offside was showing that we were really going toe to toe with the Germans. Palacio missing that lobe over the goalie should have gone in too. The Germans had some really go
od chances as well but you could see they were nervous as they weren't finishing how they finished with Brazil. And Messi .. Oooooh Messi.. The first half he seemed to be really moving but he was very well marked by the Germans but he had 3 really good chances and any other game he would finish those. The one really upset me was the free kick at the end of the game, he didn't even come close to the net. It got super tough for him to win a World Cup now :( .. He did get the award for player of the tournament but I think that was just for optics and business reasons. There were many other players who deserved that title like Muller, James Rodriguez or even Robben.
The one thing that really opened my eyes is the hatred between Argentina and Brazil. I was aware of the rivalry but watching it live, they just hate each other in the sport but also politically. When we were at the game most of the brazilians were cheering for Germany, as they would definitely not cheer for Argentina which is understandable in this sport. However the wounds are just more deeper than tha. After losing 10-1 in the last two games, the way they were celebrating the Germany's win was like as if they won. And this is the team that just destroyed them but it seems that the rivalry and political issues just surpass the beautiful game. The Germans were super classy when meeting them after the loss and there were handshakes and hugs going all around and good discussions. As for the brazilians they were yelling out "F*** Argentina!!!!!" Everywhere we walked on the streets it was getting pretty tense.
Overall what a fantastic experience!! I have to thank Alnoor uncle for making this entire trip possible from the day he planted the seed in my mind. Until the next one ... May be Russia 2018?
